Do you have an IDEA TO IMPROVE the student experience?

Describe an innovative program, initiative, or service that improves the Southeast Missouri State University student experience on campus!

Additional information and resources

Eligibility requirements

  • Undergraduate students at Southeast Missouri State University who are enrolled in 12 hours or more or graduate students enrolled in 6 hours or more.
  • Submissions may be made by a team of 1-3 students.

Innovation Challenge Examples

  • A student engagement program with Catapult Creative House services
  • A sexual violence awareness campaign
  • A sustainability program for the entire campus
  • Music and lyrics to a university spirit song and how to promote it
  • A diversity awareness program for student

Note: the above are just a few examples.

Materials to be submitted

  • 2-3 page executive summary of each element identified in the criteria as a Word document or PDF file.
  • 3 minute pitch video
  • Submissions are due by midnight Fri., October 30th, 2020 via online submission below.
    • An appendix may be added to enhance the understanding of any points made in the summary.
    • If relevant, one additional supporting document may be uploaded to support your executive summary and pitch video.
      • EX: a law referenced in the executive summary/pitch

Top 3 Winners and People's Choice

The top three winners will be announced on Wed., Nov. 18 in celebration of Global Entrepreneurship Week.

First Place

  • $750 cash reward

Second Place

  • $500 cash reward

Third Place

  • $250 cash reward

Prizes (less taxes) will be awarded to each winning team.

Although not required, reservations can be made by contacting the HMGMC service desk at 573.986.4978 or at hmgmc@semo.edu. Otherwise, the studio is used on a first-come, first-serve basis.

  • Review the application process carefully and thoroughly review the judging criteria.

Embrace diversity in your team.

  • To help increase your inspirations for innovative ideas, form a team of people who do not have the same major as you.

  • Submit your team’s idea by Fri., October 30.

Clearly address each criteria being judged.

  • IMPACTFUL to student life at Southeast;
  • INNOVATIVE and new to Southeast;
  • FEASIBLE and realistically able to be done.
